if-i-could-vote: Created in 1956 and located 130km north of Bangkok, Thailand, Wat Thamkrabok has become famous for its drug detoxification program, one of the harshest and most successful in the world. Over the years the monastery has welcomed over 100,000 guests from all over the world into its program, which touts a success rate of around 80 percent. Although much of the world’s attention is focused on the drug rehabilitation program at Wat Thamkrabok, the approximately 100 monks (Phra’s) and 20 nuns (Chee’s) see it as their monastery, or “airport to nirvana”. The sprawling grounds include huge gardens, temples and monuments built by the monks and nuns who live there.
